Bhakti Yoga Club at Cabrillo College

Last Bhakti Yoga Meeting, Tent Program, and Meditation Circle

May 2007

The Bhakti Yoga Club at Cabrillo College is dedicated to spreading Krishna consciousness throughout the campus and encouraging friends and newcommers to chant the Hare Krishna mahamantra, associate with spiritually minded people, and introspectively contemplate our existence as part of the Organic Whole.

Each week the students discuss different subject matters and share any realizations they had during the week based on previous discussions such as the meaning of the Organic Whole, the living entity and its' relationship to the Organic Whole, the meaning of consciousness, Prakrti, material nature, and how we can learn to interact harmoniously with obstacles. The concepts are usually displayed through Powerpoint presentations, or group discussions and articles.

Towards the end of the semester the Bhakti Yoga Club held several events outdoors to make this devotional practice more accessible to those uninformed of the regular gatherings.

The following events took place separately throughout the month of May and up until the last week before the semester ended. The Bhakti Yoga Club will again begin in August and continue through December.

Tent Program-Bhakti Premik Siddhanthi Maharaj.
With a book table and prasadam distribution the club invites students to take prasadam and participate in a discussion with a monk from India.

Sripad Bhakti Premik Siddhanthi Maharaj and Nowla Kishore prabhu meeting interested students.
In a short and incomplete summary, Maharaj spoke sweetly about sadhu-sanga, association with saintly people, harinam, the transmission of transcendental sound, and the all permeating aspect of the Sweet Absolute that we must tune into be cultivating devotional practices.
Maharaj's discussion incited students to discuss and realize the power of sound and the different effects that it has on consciousness. The students realized the potential of the mahamantra to bring the highest conception, love of divine service to the Sweet Absolute, into our consciousness and thus purify our approach.

Jamil, a born Sufi, finds parallels between Krishna consciousness and Sufism.
Meanwhile, the prasadam distribution continues.

This particular tent program then inspired all of us to get together the following week and chant outside of our regular meetings. Harinam sankirtan ki jaya!
